WHAT MAKES THIS WINE UNIQUE?
This is a freshly elegant, complex wine of place made from organically-grown Mencia grapes cultivated in the mountains of Ponferrada in Bierzo.

GRAPE:
100% Mencia. Organically grown vines planted since 1950. Vines tended in slate, sand and clay soil from 450 m (1,476 ft) elevation.

VINIFICATION AND AGING:
Fermentation occurs naturally utilizing indigenous yeasts and takes place in stainless steel tanks (30% whole cluster). The juice macerates with skins for 20 days. The wine then spends 6 months ageing on its lees in clay amphorae.

LOCATION, SOIL, CLIMATE:
The vineyards, called Viñas del Alto de Ponferrada, are located both in Pueblo de Ozuelo en the district of Ponferrada within the region of Bierzo. The soil is composed of slate, sand and clay. The average elevation of the vineyards is 450 m (1,476 ft). Temperature from April to October averages 20 C (68 F) with annual rainfall of 800mm (31.5").
