Agricultura

Agricultura's most marked characteristic is its freshness. This wine was made by Luis Duarte, a Portuguese wine maker of much renown. The grapes are selected from a 42-hectare plantation on the Herdade Monte da Ribeira, a farm located in the coolest and most mountainous sub-zone of the Alentejo region, marked by low rainfall, semi-arid growing conditions and high daytime temperatures. Alentejo is inland and west of the Spanish border and has ideal conditions for producing excellent red wines.

WHAT MAKES THIS WINE UNIQUE?
The mountainous region where Agricultura is produced is the coolest part of the Alentejo region, formerly planted almost exclusively with white wine grapes. This climate allows for the production of perfectly balanced, fresh red wines produced from our traditional red grape varietals.

GRAPE:
40% Touriga Nacional, 40% Aragonez (AKA Tempranillo), 20% Trincadeira. Sustainably grown vines planted in 2004. Tended in schist-clay soil on the Herdade Monte da Ribeira, a farm located in the coolest and most mountainous sub-zone of the Alentejo region. This is a vegan wine.

A seductive red wine made from the classic Portuguese varietals Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Trincadeira, the unoaked, fleshy, dark ruby-colored 2012 Agricultura displays copious fruit, low acidity, ripe, sweet tannin and an expansive, fleshy mouthfeel. It is the ideal bistro red to drink with an assortment of cuisines. [Notes by Pobert Parker, Wine Advocate #208, Aug 2013]
