Winery  Wines

Proprietor: Juan García founded Bodegas Monteabellon in 2000, owning
124 acres (50 ha) of vineyard land in Nova de Roa (eastern district) of
Ribera del Duero. His first vintage was 2001.

Winemaker / Vineyard Manager: Juan Manuel Burgos / Juan Garcia

Location: Zone 2, in the town of Nava de Roa, eastern district of Ribera
del Duero at 2,638 ft altitude. The eastern district of Ribera del Duero is
known for being higher, cooler and drier than neighboring districts.

Wines Made: Avaniel (and others not currently imported buy Ole)

Climate: Continental climate (Zone 2) cold nights and hot days with moderately low levels of rainfall. Wines produced here are usually deeper in color, more concentrated and aromatic than wines made in the western part of Ribera del Duero. Higher in altitude than Rueda and Toro thus
lower temperatures averaging 59.9º F. from April to October, 9.6 inches of annual rainfall in Nava de Roa. These climatic conditions provide a longer ripening season, resulting in wines that are darker, firm in acidity, concentrated and aromatically expressive.

Soils: Composed of sand and limestone. Moderate to low in organic matter reducing yields to 7 pounds (3 Kg) of grapes per vine, maximizing the fruit concentration of each grape. Soils are deep and compact in texture with a balanced pH factor contributing to crisp acidity on the
palate. Climatic conditions of these vineyards play a greater role than soils in determining the qualities found in these wines.

What makes Avaniel unique?

* value driven wine from Ribera del Duero,

* age in stainless steal, maximizing its fruit expression,

* small production wine made from non-irrigated vines.

* polished tannins, making Avaniel a great ready to drink wine.

* This wine is made by Juan Manuel Burgos, the winemaker of Avan, Mibal and Triskel wines.

There are 45,876 acres of vineyard land in Ribera del Duero.

Tempranillo vines protected by the north hill of Quintana.
