Our
man from Papa Godello, Pedro Alvarez, pays us a visit.
He makes a wine called Castelo do Papa, made from a little
known grape called Godello. This varietal is native to
Spain, and around 20 years ago was almost facing extinction.
The grape however, continued to flourish in one small
town in Northwestern Spain called Valdeorras. A few dedicated
winemakers, understanding the unique beauty of Godello,
slowly began increasing their production so that they
could share this wonderful white wine with the world.
The wine is obviously fantastic. Even Stephen Tanzer thought
so, awarding it 88 points. Thanks to our friends at WineJunction.com
and Hallway Films.
